Ask a neighbor in Pearl River or Nyack what Blauvelt is, and you will usually get a shrug and a Route 303 landmark. Ask someone who actually lives here, and the answer runs longer. The hamlet reads small on a map, roughly the stretch between Western Highway and 303, but the 10913 sits on top of one of the largest continuous wild tracts in Rockland County and a commercial spine that has quietly grown teeth. The 590-Acre Backyard Most Neighbors Underuse
Blauvelt State Park is the answer to the "we should get outside" text thread, and most residents drive past it every day without registering the scale. The most-hiked loop, the Long Path Loop through Tackamac and Blauvelt State Park, runs roughly 10 kilometers with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. That is enough climb to earn the flagpole overlook at the top and enough distance that you will actually stop checking your phone.
A few local specifics that a search engine will not tell you cleanly:
- Park at Tackamack. The lot at 68 Clausland Mountain Road is the practical trailhead for both the Long Path and the mountain bike network. Greenbush works, but Tackamack has room.

The 250-foot boardwalk on Swamp Thing lifts you above a floodplain. County parks nearby do not permit mountain biking, so this is the local outlet.
If you have kids or a dog, the shorter out-and-back to the tunnels from the Tackamack lot is the right call. If you have a morning, do the full loop and be home for lunch.

The stretch of East Erie Street and Route 303 does not look like a restaurant destination on the drive-by. Locals know the drive-by is misleading.
The Dining Room at 135 East Erie Street is the headline. Restaurateur Paul Bailey, who also runs Bailey's Smokehouse in Blauvelt along with locations in New City and Nanuet, opened it with executive chef Gregory Stott, a former semifinalist on Food Network's Chopped. The kitchen runs a tight, rotating menu of about ten appetizers and entrees, and Stott's signature French onion soup is built on a 48-hour beef broth, imported gruyère, and onions caramelized for 16 to 17 hours. Brunch Saturday and Sunday leans on a chicken and waffles plate served with cheddar-jalapeño cornbread and hot honey, and eggs Benedict built on braised short ribs and grilled ciabatta. Bailey's own framing is worth repeating in plain terms: he wanted fine dining without the toll, the parking garage, and the hundred dollars you spend before you sit down.
Bailey's Smokehouse is the same operator's earlier, more casual room and remains the default when someone in the family wants ribs and someone else wants a beer with a game on. Yelp's rolling top-ten for the Blauvelt area, updated in mid-2026, seats Bailey's alongside Nova Kitchen, Sage Bar and Grille, Bach's Bistro, and Basque Tapas Bar, which is a reasonable snapshot of the local rotation.
Route 303 also just got a small refresh worth mentioning: the Dunkin' at 580 Route 303 reopened as a "Next Generation" store. Not exciting on its own, but the interior redesign changes the morning routine for anyone who commutes north to the Palisades or south into Bergen County.
