Which ski area opens its lifts at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday and can light 80% of its terrain after dark? The one sitting in Mahwah's backyard. Campgaw Mountain posts Monday-through-Thursday hours of 2 to 8 p.m. Its pass list for 2026–27 is already up, and the pass comes with discounts at Mahwah businesses you probably already use.
On a weekday, the lifts start turning after the school day ends and stop at dinnertime. The lesson calendar and the passholder perks follow that same weekday rhythm.
The Lifts Run on the Bus Schedule
The hill sits inside the 1,373-acre Campgaw Mountain Reservation, a Bergen County park. Ski Campgaw Management LLC runs the ski operation, according to the county's June 2026 directory. The operator's stated goal is to open in mid-December and stay open through March. It sets no fixed opening day, because that depends on the weather.
The posted weekly hours show who the mountain is built for. The prices below are Campgaw's 2026–27 daily snow-pass rates.
| Day | Posted hours | All-day snow pass | Partial-day snow pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday–Thursday | 2:00–8:00 p.m. | $43 | $37 |
| Friday | 1:00–10:00 p.m. | $49 | $39 |
| Saturday | 8:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m. | $69 | $59 |
| Sunday | 8:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m. | $69 | $59 |
On weekdays the lifts don't start until mid-afternoon, so most of a weekday session happens in the late afternoon and evening. The mountain is equipped for that. It lists night-lighting capability across 80% of the terrain, snowmaking capability across all of it, two double chairlifts and three surface lifts. The full-snowmaking figure matters most in a mild December, since the mid-December target depends on making snow, not waiting for it.
Two cautions on the table. The hours page doesn't say whether that schedule is specific to 2026–27, so treat it as the current posting. The ticket page also lists separate "Early Opening" rates for non-holiday weekdays when the lifts start at 10 a.m.: $59 all day and $49 for a partial day, Monday through Friday. A day with longer hours costs more than the standard 2 p.m. weekday ticket.
Lessons Fit Into the Same Window
The programs page lists the 2026–27 Snow Sports Academy as four-week programs: Cruisers for ages 4 to 6, Mountain Masters for ages 7 to 19, and a beginner program for adults. Published packages start at $229 on weekdays and $269 on weekends for Cruisers lessons only. They go up to $449 on weekdays and $529 on weekends for the adult and Mountain Masters packages that bundle lessons, a pass and rentals.
The $40 to $80 gap between weekday and weekend pricing follows the same logic as the lift tickets. Campgaw charges less for the hours that fit around a school day. The Private Program gives one hour of one-on-one instruction a week for four weeks, with class times on Tuesday through Friday evenings, and it skips Presidents' week. The page also says spots are first come, first served, and that lessons Campgaw cancels for weather earn a credit or refund. The page shows mixed messages about registration status, so check it directly before you plan around a particular session.
The Math on a Pass, at Weeknight Prices
Season passes for 2026–27 went on sale under a price list the site labels "October 2026":
- Weekday non-holiday: $239
- Weekend and holiday: $319
- Unlimited: $349
- Child unlimited, ages 3 to 11: $309
- Senior unlimited, 65 and up: $249
- Child combo, ages 3 to 11: $359
Compared with the daily rates, the weekday pass costs about as much as five and a half Monday-through-Thursday all-day tickets at $43. If you ski weeknights at the standard rate, the sixth visit is the one that starts paying you back. The weekend pass works out to roughly four and a half Saturday or Sunday all-day tickets at $69. The unlimited pass costs $110 more than the weekday pass, which is about what two weekend-day tickets would cost you anyway.
For a household within a short drive, the weekday pass is the one built for the posted schedule. Six weeknight sessions in a season that runs from mid-December through March comes to about one every two and a half weeks.
Mondays and Tuesdays Go to the Tubing Lanes
The tubing area has 15 to 17 lanes about 800 feet long, served by one lift. The tubing page lists two-hour sessions at $33 Monday through Thursday, $35 on Friday and $39 on weekends and holidays, plus a $27 one-hour session on select holidays.
Season passholders get unlimited free tubing on non-holiday Mondays and Tuesdays, subject to availability. On those days they can bring any number of guests for $15 each. Against the $33 weekday session rate, that's $18 off for every friend, cousin or visiting grandparent who comes along. The two slowest days of the ski week turn into the best-value days for a group.
The Pass Also Works on Franklin Turnpike
Campgaw's 2026–27 passholder discount program runs from July 1, 2026, through April 1, 2027, unless a listing says otherwise. The page says some deals are still pending. The offers reach as far as Hoboken and Edison, but a good share of them sit right in Mahwah:
- Bubbakoo's Burritos, 9 Franklin Turnpike: 15% off your bill
- Edible Arrangements, 15 Franklin Turnpike: 20% off orders of $50 or more, not combinable with other offers
- Bagel Express, 75 Franklin Turnpike: 15% off your purchase
- Mason Jar, 219 Ramapo Valley Road: 10% off your food order
- Bam Bagel, 1003 MacArthur Boulevard: 10% off any order under $50
- Mahwah Pizza & Pasta, 1035 MacArthur Boulevard: 10% off your bill
- Mahwah Bar and Grill, 2 Island Road: 10% off your food bill, alcohol not included
- Esposito's Pizza, 425 Forest Road: 10% off in-house or pick-up dining
- Mom's Kitchen To Go, 5 Miller Road: 10% off your purchase
Three of those addresses are on Franklin Turnpike, two of them six numbers apart, and two more are on MacArthur Boulevard. For a family whose weeknight session ends at 8 p.m., that's dinner on the way home.
The list also reaches across the town lines nearby. In Ramsey, Luna Azul at 38 East Main Street and Lettuce Inn Juice Bar at 30 East Main Street each take 10% off the bill. Ramsey Outdoor at 835 Route 17 gives $10 off purchases over $50 and $20 off purchases over $100 with the code CAMPGAW, with restrictions. Urban Auto Spa at 785 Route 17 in Ramsey takes $3 off a Gold car wash and $4 off a Platinum. That's useful after a winter of salted roads. Over the state line in Suffern, three Lafayette Avenue storefronts take part: The Best Diner at No. 36 with 10% off the bill, Petals and Stems Florist at No. 55 with 10% off flowers, and Paw Diva at No. 4 with a free teeth gel treatment with any service. That's the same stretch we covered in our look at the Lafayette Theatre and the restaurants around it.
Put a weekday pass next to the coupon list and the price looks different. Part of what you pay comes back in burritos, bagels and car washes between December and April.
Before the Snow Arrives
The reservation doesn't sit idle while it waits for cold nights. Bergen County lists marked hiking trails, a disc golf course, archery, catch-and-release fishing and picnicking at Campgaw. Campsites are available by permit from April through November, and some have lean-tos. That means November is the last month of camping season on the same slopes that open to skiers a few weeks later. For more trail ideas close to home, see our guide to nature trails and scenic hikes around Mahwah.
The season pass page has the current prices and the link to buy, and the mountain's hours page will carry opening news once the snowmaking crews have enough cold nights to work with.
Being able to go skiing at 2 p.m. on a weekday is part of what makes a Mahwah address valuable, and a buyer from outside Bergen County may not know that yet. At The Molfetta Team, we build listing stories around local details like these, the kind that show what a house is like to live in in January.
